An avid reader from an early age, Katherine's favorite childhood books were Bridge to Terabithia and The Giver. In second grade, a teacher reprimanded her for choosing too many Babysitters Club books. Nevertheless, Katherine still enjoys reading and writing lots of different kinds of stories.
Fascinated by people and social (dis)organization, especially in families, Katherine discovered sociology in college at the University of Georgia. She earned her doctorate at Penn State, where she wrote creatively as a break from her dissertation. As a tenured professor at Louisiana State University, she taught courses on family relationships and research methods.
Katherine began a second career of writing fiction full-time at age 41. She lives in Atlanta with her husband and three children. The mountains of western North Carolina soothe her soul, and she visits as often as possible.
