I find people fascinating, and I write to explore life in all its messy, painful, complex glory.
What can you expect from my writing?
Drama? Yes. Trauma? Obviously. Beauty? I hope you will find some of that, too.
I'm currently finishing my second novel. I also dabble in short stories and poetry. When I'm not writing or reading, I'm usually driving my kids around town. I enjoy hiking, biking, and oversharing (yours and mine).
Info dump for those who like that kind of thing:
Always captivated by people and social (dis)organization, especially in families, I learned I could turn my penchant for observing people into a college major when I discovered sociology in college at the University of Georgia. I earned a doctorate in sociology and demography at Penn State, where I wrote creatively as a break from my dissertation. My research focused on how families affect child well-being. As a tenured professor at Louisiana State University, I taught undergrad and graduate-level courses on family relationships and research methods.
I love being a writer. I used to study people through empirical research. Now I get to dive deeply into characters and their complex interactions in my stories.
I live in Atlanta with my husband, three lively children, two housecats, backyard chickens, and golden retriever, Remy. Part of my heart is in New Orleans, where I lived for nearly a decade, and part resides in the mountains of North Carolina, a place that has always soothed my soul.
